Description:
We are looking for an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join our team remotely and support our UK residential construction, refurbishment and development projects.
The successful candidate will have strong construction knowledge and experience in preparing client quotations, reviewing architectural and structural drawings, assessing construction stages and supporting lender drawdowns.
The Quantity Surveyor will work closely with our Operational Director, on a day-to-day basis, while also working closely with our Strategic Director and reporting directly to her as required.
The role will act as an important bridge between the operational and strategic sides of the business, ensuring strong communication, commercial oversight and effective project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Review architectural plans, structural drawings and specifications.
- Read and interpret drawings to understand the scope of construction works.
- Review structural calculations and technical information where required.
- Prepare detailed quotations for clients based on drawings, specifications and project requirements.
- Prepare accurate construction cost estimates and schedules of works.
- Review contractor quotations, scopes and costs.
- Prepare payment schedule and forecast revenue and costs
- Identify variations, additional works and potential cost increases.
- Assess project progress remotely using site photographs, videos, drawings and contractor updates.
- Identify the current construction stage and works completed.
- Assist with lender drawdowns, including assessing completed works and preparing information required by Monitoring Surveyors and lenders.
- Assist Monitoring Surveyor with cost or construction-related queries.
- Monitor project budgets and provide ongoing commercial support.
Essential Requirements
- Recognised qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction, Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
- RICS or CIOB membership/accreditation is desirable but not essential.
- Minimum 3–5 years’ relevant experience in Quantity Surveying, construction estimating or commercial management.
- Strong experience in residential construction, refurbishment or property development.
- Excellent ability to read and understand architectural and structural drawings.
- Experience preparing client-facing construction quotations.
- Strong understanding of construction methods, sequencing and project stages.
- Experience with construction valuations, lender drawdowns and/or Monitoring Surveyors is highly desirable.
- Ability to understand structural calculations and technical construction information.
- Strong commercial awareness and attention to detail.
- Excellent written communication and organisational skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects remotely.
