Description:
As Head of Accounting, you will own the accounting function end to end for US clients. You will be accountable for the integrity of the financial statements, the discipline of the close, the strength of the control environment, and readiness for audit and for the function that produces all four.
You will lead a team of accountants and work as a peer to US Controllers and CFOs rather than a reporting line beneath them. Where a client has outgrown the processes that carried it this far a close held together by one person's memory, controls that exist in policy but not in practice, a reconciliation nobody has cleared in three quarters you will be the person who rebuilds them.
The seat remains substantively hands-on. In a lean client team you will still prepare the difficult entry yourself.
What You Will Own
- Own end-to-end accounting (Record-to-Report) for US clients, including how the work is structured and where it sits
- Own the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close, with accountability for the calendar, output quality, and cycle time
- Own the financial statements under US GAAP and stand behind them with leadership and auditors
- Own technical accounting positions revenue recognition, deferred revenue, accruals, leases, and capitalisation and maintain the documentation supporting them
- Establish and enforce accounting policies, internal controls, approval workflows, and close procedures appropriate to each client's stage
- Own the annual audit end to end, including auditor management, PBC preparation, and resolution of findings
- Coordinate US tax compliance with external CPA firms and own the accounting inputs they depend on
- Own multi-entity accounting, consolidation, and intercompany balances where applicable
- Build, lead, and develop the accounting team, and shape how it is structured and resourced as the client scales
- Lead ERP selection, implementation, and migration, alongside AP, expense, and close-management automation
- Build the close checklists, process narratives, and SOPs that let the function run without depending on any single individual
- Act as the senior accounting voice with US leadership, advising on risks and the accounting implications of business decisions
What We're Looking For
- 10+ years of progressive accounting experience with deep US GAAP expertise
- Demonstrated ownership of the close and the financial statements on an independent basis, rather than contribution to someone else's
- Experience leading and developing an accounting team
- Experience owning an audit, including direct management of external auditors through to resolution of findings
- A track record of building accounting processes and controls from the ground up, or rebuilding underperforming ones
- Experience with multi-entity accounting and consolidation preferred
- Substantial ERP experience (NetSuite, Sage Intacct, QuickBooks, Toast, or similar), including implementation or migration
- CA / CPA / ACCA (or equivalent) strongly preferred
- Big 4 or comparable public accounting experience followed by industry experience preferred
- Excellent English communication, with the confidence to hold the room in a leadership or audit setting
- Ability to work with US time zone overlap
