Description:
We are developing a cutting-edge, custom drone for inspecting commercial solar installations. This proof-of-concept (POC) will integrate:
· An F7/H7-based flight controller
· A lightweight carbon fiber airframe
· High-resolution RGB & thermal imaging sensors
· Onboard computer vision (with LTE/5G offload capability)
You'll work closely with our founder, who has extensive experience in software startups and product strategy, to bring this innovative system to life. We're looking for a self-motivated engineer to lead prototyping and integration while effectively communicating progress.
Responsibilities:
Hardware Integration:
· Assemble and integrate the custom carbon fiber frame, flight controller (F7/H7), and subsystems.
· Select and install motors, ESCs, and propellers for optimal performance.
· Work with power systems, including battery hot-swap designs and power distribution modules.
Sensor & Payload Integration:
· Integrate high-resolution RGB and thermal imaging sensors (both hardware & software interfacing).
· Set up data acquisition from IMU, GPS, and barometer sensors for robust flight performance.
Software & Computer Vision:
· Support the development of basic computer vision algorithms for detecting wiring defects, thermal anomalies, and wear on solar panels.
· Interface the onboard computer (e.g., Jetson Orin Nano, Qualcomm-based board) with the flight controller and sensors.
· Assist in setting up data offload protocols (LTE/5G) for real-time processing.
Testing & Troubleshooting:
· Conduct bench testing, simulation, and field trials of the drone system.
· Identify and troubleshoot hardware, firmware, and software issues.
· Document test results, challenges, and iterative improvements.
Project Documentation & Communication:
· Maintain clear documentation of designs, modifications, and test outcomes.
· Provide regular updates and collaborate with the project lead to ensure smooth integration.
· Qualifications:
o Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Science, or a related field.
o Hands-on experience in robotics, embedded systems, or UAVs/drones (Ardupilot, PX4 experience is a plus).
o Familiarity with computer vision or machine learning (Python, C++, OpenCV, TensorFlow).
o Basic understanding of hardware prototyping (soldering, CAD, mechanical assembly).
o Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently and in a small, agile team.
o Excellent communication skills to report progress, challenges, and results.
o A genuine passion for UAV innovation and a willingness to learn on the job!
