Description:
As an Oracle Database consultant, you will be assigned projects for the design, deployment and optimizing Oracle Database Server databases to ensure high availability, performance, security, and reliability. You will collaborate with IT teams, developers, and other stakeholders to design, implement, migrate and backup Oracle Server databases. The role involves implementing best practices, and ensuring data integrity. Most of the project engagement will be around migrating databases or building disaster recovery sites for customers. Each project scope may differ and will be provided before the start. Below are general highlights of the activities during a typical engagement.
Responsibilities:
Database Design and Implementation:
- Collaborate with multiple teams to design and implement database that meet availability, performance and scalability requirements.
- Ensure all best practices are taken into consideration during design phase.
Performance Tuning and Optimization:
- Monitor and analyze Oracle database performance, identifying and resolving performance bottlenecks.
Security and Compliance:
- Implement and maintain database security measures to protect sensitive data.
- Ensure compliance with data privacy regulations and industry standards.
Backup and Disaster Recovery:
- Develop and maintain database backup and disaster recovery strategies.
- Design, implement, test (drill) and document the backup / disaster recovery solution to minimize data loss and downtime. (achieve lowest possible RPO & RTO).
- Document procedures.
Monitoring and Alerting:
- Implement database monitoring tools and alerts to proactively identify issues.
Migration:
- Design & develop migration strategy as per customer requirement
- Document all risks and plan risk mitigation activities
- Monitor replication and troubleshoot issues as required
- Test failover and failback before actual planned migration activity.
Documentation:
- Create and maintain documentation for Oracle database configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Collaborate with IT teams, developers, and other stakeholders to understand database requirements.
- Communicate effectively with non-technical stakeholders to address concerns and provide insights.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as an Oracle Server database deployment and administration.
- Strong understanding of database design, normalization, and performance optimization.
- Experience with database security, backup, and recovery strategies.
- Knowledge of high availability and disaster recovery solutions.
- Familiarity with database monitoring tools.
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
