Description:
The Finance Specialist owns Tuitional's day-to-day financial operations end to end: recording and reconciling every transaction, keeping the books clean and current, closing the month on time, and turning that data into reporting leadership can actually make decisions from.
This is an early-career role with real scope. You will handle student billing and collections, tutor payouts across four countries, vendor payments, payroll support, statutory filing preparation, and the monthly management accounts — working under the CEO's review, with the expectation that you take more of it on independently as you prove the work. You will also help redesign the manual processes we have outgrown.
You will work directly with the CEO and cross-functionally with Academics, Admissions, and Operations. The reporting you produce lands on the desk where decisions get made, so accuracy and timeliness are the job. If you want a finance seat where you learn the whole function rather than one corner of it, this is that seat.
Key ResponsibilitiesAccounting & Bookkeeping
Record all transactions accurately and on time in the accounting system; maintain the general ledger and chart of accounts.
Perform bank, payment gateway, and inter-account reconciliations on a defined cycle; investigate and clear variances rather than carrying them forward.
Maintain organised, audit-ready supporting documentation for every entry.
Manage accruals, prepayments, deferred revenue on advance fee collections, and month-end journals.
Financial Reporting
Run the month-end close and prepare management accounts — P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow — within the agreed reporting calendar, for leadership review.
Prepare periodic financial statements and schedules in line with applicable accounting standards.
Build and maintain recurring management reports: revenue by programme and curriculum, tutor cost and margin, collections ageing, and cash position.
Present findings clearly to non-finance stakeholders — the insight matters more than the spreadsheet.
Budgeting, Planning & Analysis
Support the annual budget and periodic reforecasts; track actuals against budget and explain the variances that matter.
Maintain rolling cash-flow forecasts and flag funding requirements early.
Analyse unit economics — cost per class, tutor utilisation, student lifetime value, contribution margin by curriculum — and surface where money is being made and lost.
Build financial models and scenario analysis to support pricing, hiring, and expansion decisions.
Billing, Collections & Payouts
Coordinate with Admissions and Operations on student invoicing, fee schedules, discounts, refunds, and credit notes.
Own the receivables ledger: track ageing, drive collections, and escalate defaults with a clear process.
Process tutor payouts and international remittances across Pakistan, the UAE, KSA, and Egypt — accurately, on schedule, and with correct FX treatment.
Reconcile online payment gateways and multi-currency receipts against the ledger.
Compliance & Controls
Ensure compliance with applicable Pakistani statutory requirements, including FBR income tax and withholding obligations, Sindh Revenue Board filings, and SECP corporate filings, coordinating with external tax and legal advisors where required.
Support payroll processing and related statutory deductions and contributions.
Maintain and strengthen internal financial controls, approval limits, and segregation of duties.
Prepare schedules and workings for internal and external audits and act as the primary point of contact during fieldwork.
Process Improvement & Systems
Identify manual, error-prone, or duplicated finance processes and redesign them.
Improve the accounting system setup, reporting templates, and documentation so the function scales without proportional headcount.
Write and maintain finance SOPs — how we invoice, how we pay, how we close, how we approve.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field. ACCA / CA / ICMA finalists and part-qualified candidates are encouraged to apply.
1–2 years of hands-on experience in a finance or accounting role. Articleship, internship, or audit-firm training counts. Experience in education, EdTech, or a services-based organisation is a plus.
Solid accounting fundamentals: general ledger maintenance, reconciliations, accruals, closing cycles, and familiarity with applicable accounting standards.
Ability to prepare financial statements and read what they are telling you — we will teach the commentary, not the mechanics.
Advanced spreadsheet skills — pivot tables, lookups, structured models. Excel or Google Sheets to a genuinely working standard, not a résumé standard.
Practical experience with accounting software (QuickBooks, Xero, Zoho Books, ERPNext, SAP, or equivalent).
Familiarity with Pakistani tax and regulatory requirements — FBR withholding, SRB, SECP filings, and payroll-related deductions. Depth here is a differentiator, not a barrier.
Strong analytical and problem-solving ability; comfortable working with incomplete data and chasing it down.
Clear written and verbal communication in English; able to explain financial concepts to people who do not think in debits and credits.
Meticulous attention to detail, high personal integrity, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-moving environment.
