Designer/buyer

Description:

● Conducting market research around emerging fashion trends as well as
general trends relating to fabrics, colours and shapes
● Create moodboards, plan and develop ranges, often based on a theme
● Create or visualise an idea and produce a design by hand or using
computer-aided design (CAD)
● Present designs to management and alter according to feedback
● Understand design from a technical perspective, i.e. producing patterns and technical specifications for designs
● Visit markets to source, select and buy fabrics, trims, fastenings and
embellishments for finalised designs
● Negotiate prices with vendors in accordance with collection budgets
● Creating technical packs to clearly communicate the design to the
manufacturing unit.
● Reviewing sample pieces for style and fit.
● Oversee production to ensure the final product is in accordance with brand standards.

Candidate Requirements:
● Bachelors degree in design/fine arts, or college degree in fashion design or related field.
● 1-2 years design experience
● Proficient in Adobe illustrator or any equivalent fashion design software
● Availability to travel for research and product development.
● Ability to do sketches by hand.
● Excellent design and conceptual skills.
● Excellent sense of style and colour.
● Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal.
