Assistant Operations Manager

 

Description:

· Good interpersonal, communication, and time management skills essential.

· Affection for animals, concern for their welfare, and a willingness to accommodate animals in the work place.

· Ability and initiative, working with minimal supervision and direction.

· Maturity, good judgment and a professional personal appearance.

· Ability to read, write and understand English required.

· Ability to identify problems or patient conditions (medical and behavioral) that need to be brought to the attention of the immediate supervisor or the veterinary technician.

· Treat people and animals with respect; contribute to effective teamwork; and, foster public relations beneficial to the shelter and its programs.

· Familiarity with animals, knowledge of animal behavior or experience volunteering or working with a rescue group, humane society, foster care involvement or other animal welfare agency are a plus.

· Comfort and ability to work with animals of unknown disposition and those who may exhibit medical and other problems, as well as aggressive tendencies.

 

Major Duties:

 

  • Follow shelter procedures and assist in all shelter operations.
  • Ensure wellbeing of all shelter animals and assure they receive the best care.
  • Oversee and manage shelter staff.
  • Record-keeping and database management of all rescue animals.
  • Lead projects around animal welfare and community outreach.
  • Make sure all shelter spaces, cages, kennels, and related areas are clean and well maintained, cages and animals are properly numbered and identified.
  • Patrol shelter grounds daily to see all things are in place and all shelter animals have everything they need.
  • Unpacking, labeling and stocking of shelter supplies and donations
  • Recognize and records any unusual condition or abnormal behavior of any shelter animal.
  • Report signs of illness, disease, injury or unusual activity to technicians/veterinarians.
  • Assist doctors, technicians, treatment assistants and other personnel with the administration of medications or with restraint.
  • Maintain equipment used to complete job assignments and keeping such equipment and tools in good working condition.
